Have you seen the picture from the Polish photographer. It's a picture of a bonfire and it looks like the Pope waving his hand. At first I thought it was all imagination but it does kind of look like him and the fire was in Poland near his hometown. So if he was going to manifest himself in life after death why not there? The Catholic Church is calling it a miracle. Would you?

Of course it could just be he was trying to communicate with someone, like Sirrus talking to Harry in the flames and ashes of the fire at Gryffndor main room at Hogwarts.

In one week we'll be taking our first born off to college. Oddly enough my husband seems more "stressed" about the first out of the nest than I do, but I suspect that I'm still focused on all the things that have to be done, purchased, cleaned and packed and that I'm not really gonna know how I'm gonna handle this until the first time I walk into that empty bedroom one evening.

However, he's been good about training me, coming home from work all last year, he'd be in his bedroom, on the computer, blogging, i-m-ing or playing video games with friends near and far.  Sending im text "is dinner ready, yet?" to my computer downstairs in the ktichen. In the morning I'd check my e-mail and find that he'd sent some silly You Tube link... My guess - hope really is that this electronic connection thing will continue and make us still feel close across the miles, and maybe the empty room won't be that big a deal.

Probably fooling myself here, any advice out there from those of you who have already gone through the freshman college year?

This morning I packed the last school lunch I'll make for my oldest son. A high school senior, this is his last full day of school. Bittersweet of course.

The interesting thing is that despite planning I didn't have a lot of lunch options in the house this morning and so he went off to school on his last day with the same lunch he had on his first day of school 15 years ago.( Pre-school age 3)  Peanut butter and jelly, pretzels and apple juice. Funny that no matter how things change they stay the same.

In all the hustle and bustle of senior year, prom, awards ceremonies, banquets and graduation, it's kind of nice to look back at the little absorbent mind that went off to school a clean slate and all that's been learned and of course looking forward to all the things that lie ahead for this college bound student.

Congratulations to all high school seniors and to the Moms that helped get them there!

Back to School Issues

As the school year gets underway and the PTA sign up lists are going home. Just want to express thanks to all the stay-at-home/work-at-home Moms that go out of their way to help the schools and the teachers get things done. Many working-out-of-the-house moms would LOVE to be able to spend an hour or two at school to help out in the office or the classroom. We can't. You can. Thank you!

There are lots of working mothers that find ways to volunteer in the evening, baking, phone trees, e-mail, typing flyers, etc. They want to be involved with their children's education and find time to do what they can. Just because you never see them around the school doesn't mean they are not hard working volunteers.
